Latin America and Europe are working on a series of recommendations to make investigations into drug trafficking more efficient

International cooperation networks linking Latin America and Europe are working to define a series of operational recommendations aimed at making drug trafficking investigations more efficient. This initiative is the result of the seminar recently held in Asunción, Paraguay, entitled “The places where illegal drugs are trafficked and the urgent need to coordinate investigations in prisons and border areas”. This event, which brought together senior representatives from fifteen countries on June 21 and 22, was organised by EUROFRONT, EL PAcCTO and COPOLAD III, all programmes financed by the European Union.

Rumichaca, Desaguadero, Bermejo-Aguas Blancas and Triple Border cooperate to improve security and development in Latin America

Four of the most significant borders in Latin America are involved in regional improvement and development through EUROFRONT. Since 2020, the seven countries involved in them have joined this European Union-financed programme. After a start conditioned by the context of the international health crisis and the consequent closure of borders, currently the seven partner countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru) are actively working on the ground together with the team of experts designated by FIIAPP (Spain), IILA (Italy) and the International Organisation for Migration (OIM). In this article, we review the main milestones of the past year at each of these border points and what guides the strategic lines for 2022.
